Go
into new age shop, or mind, body, spirit fayre and you can't help but
be dazzled by the array of shiny crystals laid out for your perusal,
and plenty of advice and guidance on the use of them. Now, don't get
me wrong, there is a tremendous volume of nonsense written and spoken
about crystals, particularly with regard to their healing properties,
but to read the mainstream media and particularly the scientific
press one could easily think that there was absolutely nothing to any
of the theories about the use of crystals as therapeutic aids at all.
This is in large part due to the power exerted by large
pharmaceutical companies who have the strength and finances to
control not just doctors, but Universities, Doctors organisations,
insurance companies and even governments. This is quite a sweeping
statement, and I guess you are wondering what evidence there could be
for such a conspiracy. Lets look a little closer at crystals.
They
come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, colours and compositions, but
there are some common features. Essentially crystals are evaporation
salts, minerals dissolved in water which, as the water evaporates are
left behind and grow, depending on the environmental conditions. In
extreme environments, such as protected cave systems in volcanic
regions single crystals can grow to incredible sizes. Recent
discoveries during mining operations in South America have uncovered
quartz crystals in excess of 12 metres in length and weighing several
tons each. As a consequence of their structure crystals have some
unusual properties. Under compression they exhibit piezoelectric
properties, flashes of electricity lighting the crystal from within.
Crystals are also used in some radio sets and in computer systems
because of their electrical properties. This leads to some
interesting thoughts on how crystals could possibly interact with the
human body.
It is
well known and understood that the human body generates a weak
electro-magnetic field through the operation of neurons and muscle
fibres as well as through the generation of a static charge through
the skins galvanic response. These fields extend beyond the body and
change and shift based on the general health and well-being of the
individual and the flow of electrical signals around the body. Damage
to nerves, muscles and so on can affect the flow. If we posit that
crystals can interact with electro-magnetic fields then it is
possible that crystals could aid in assessing those fields and
perhaps even modifying them. Of course, there will never be the
amount of research into something as unprofitable as crystal therapy.
The money is in taking nature and creating something unnatural at
vast profit, and that is what big pharmaceutical companies are all
about. Of course, if the drugs they provide keep you ill by creating
side effects that require even more drugs to treat, then so much the
better. There will be more on this topic soon.
POwerful thoughts - I agree with your point that natural therapies aren't promoted simply beacuse they are freely available.
